New player mentions cricket at training session

Initial training sessions at the Reds have taken an unseasonal turn with a new recruit keen to chat international cricket rather than Dusty's 29 disposals.

‘What a series! Anderson goes past McGrath and Ali finally came good!’

Nathan (yet to be nicknamed) showed up to Reds pre-season with a can do attitude that has the Reds playing roster slightly bewildered.

‘Was that on in the UAE?’ one particularly jaded leg-spinner quipped at the top of his mark.

‘Yeah I heard Alec Stewart had a blinder’ was the response from an opener that was searching for a left handed set of gloves in the club kit.

Poor old Nath’s handy offies were overshadowed by his gormless response to the apathy of the Reds playing group to the return of the most park cricket player ever, Ben Stokes.

‘Yeah, was wondering how he’d go but the break looks like it did him well’

Sources close to the playing group said the discussion Nathan seemed to be having with himself did not once mention the valiant Collingwood tilt in Perth or the Demons winning a final for the first time in a decade.

‘Yeah, clearly loves his cricket. I didn’t even know it was on at the moment.’ A player who wished to remain nameless said.

Speaking with this reporter after the Sunday training session, Nathan was enthused at the prospect of upcoming international cricket.

‘Mitch Marsh is captaining Australia A in India at the moment. What a buzz!’

After being invited to the Reds Grand Final Day Shindig (hosted and screened live at Poplar Oval) Nathan was checking his calendar.

‘Gee, I don’t know. Sounds fun but we’re playing the Kiwi’s in a T20 that night. I might have to leave at quarter time to catch the toss.’

Players are currently sourcing nickname for the new recruit.
